Home Business Report Magazine
Flashback to 1989 and the words "home-based
business" would not be found very often in the same sentence.
Entrepreneurs with vision who wanted to create a business that suited
their lifestyle often faced misunderstanding from family and friends
and lack of support from community bylaw officers. From the humble
beginnings of a misunderstood segment of the market grew the Home
Business Report. Originally a regional newsletter for Western
Canadians, it became a national magazine, serving micro-enterpreneurs
from coast-to-coast-to-coast!
Home Business Report began in
Barbara Mowat's home 14 years ago with state of the art technology,
contributing writers and editors from across North America, with
a lot of late nights and sweat equity! The magazine now boasts a
print circulation of 50,000.
Today, with approximately 20% of the
workforce self employed, the words SOHO (small office, home office),
entrepreneur and home based business are part of the culture! In
communities all across North America, and the world, people are
offering everything from doggy daycare, to manufacturing, to international
translation services from their home-based businesses.

four years, Home Business Report, in collaboration with RBC Royal
Bank and Canada Post, have conducted national surveys of Canadian
communities to discover what can be done to make towns and cities
more Home-based Business Friendly. This years awards

Council of BC join in with their support.
